The Ancient Practice of Scalp Tapping (or “Hammering”)

Why Tapping the Scalp Works
1. It boosts blood circulation to the hair follicles
Blood flow supplies oxygen, nutrients, and minerals to the hair follicles.
Increased circulation = a healthier follicle = stronger hair + thicker hair
2. It wakes up dormant follicles
Scalp tissue (similar to facial tissue) can become tight, stagnant, or congested.
Tapping creates a mild mechanical stimulation that can help activate sluggish follicles.
Healthier follicles = healthier hair cycling + support for the growth phase of hair.
3. It may help slow the appearance of grey hair
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the scalp is closely connected to the health of the kidney and liver meridians, which are believed to influence hair vitality and pigment.
Regular stimulation of the scalp helps to maintain a healthy circulatory environment to support natural hair color for longer.
While greying is largely genetic, improving scalp health can support the environment where pigment cells function.
4. It benefits the skin and face
The scalp and face are part of the same connective tissue network.
Stimulation of the scalp improves circulation throughout the head = lymphatic flow improves = tension in the scalp releases.
Increased blood flow = brighter skin + less puffiness + healthier collagen environment.
A relaxed scalp = a more relaxed, lifted face.
The pressure should feel stimulating, but not painful. Consistency matters more than intensity. Try to practice daily for 3-5 minutes. I also tap in my brows and on my 11's to relax the muscles that create the 11's and for healthy brow hair growth.
I don’t have scientific studies to back this up—only my personal experience—but I truly feel this practice has helped keep my grey hair at bay. When my hair was shorter, I was getting it cut every 6–8 weeks and relying on highlights each time to cover greys. Now, I stretch my cuts to every 4–5 months and only see a few grey hairs popping up. All from simply stimulating the scalp and increasing blood flow. The human body is amazing!
