Simple wellness rituals to welcome fall

As the temps are finally coming down and fall is here, I’m craving getting back into my routines and being more consistent with the small rituals that help me feel my best. Here are a few simple practices I’m focusing on this season.

1. Oil Pulling — Daily

Oil pulling is one of the first things I do in the morning. I swish an Ayurvedic oil pulling formula around my mouth before brushing my teeth.

This traditional Ayurvedic practice has been used as part of oral-care routines for centuries. Swishing oil through the teeth and around the gums can help loosen debris and bacteria in the mouth. And besides making my mouth feel cleaner, and maybe helping keep my teeth a little brighter, I swear it opens my sinuses! I often need to blow my nose after oil pulling.

2. Tongue Scraping — Daily

After oil pulling, I use a copper tongue scraper. Tongue scraping physically removes the coating that can accumulate on the surface of the tongue, including food debris, dead cells and bacteria.

If you've never tried tongue scraping, get ready! It can be pretty shocking to see what comes off your tongue! Once you start doing it regularly, it’s one of those little rituals that’s hard to give up.

3. Nasya Oil — Twice Daily AM/PM

Nasya is another traditional Ayurvedic practice I’ve incorporated into my morning and evening routine. It involves placing a small amount of herbal oil in and around the nasal passages. Nasya Oil has been used for centuries to relax tension, pressure, and stuffiness while moistening dry, scratchy noses.

I struggle with allergies and headaches and using Nasya Oil morning and evening has been a game changer for me!

4. Hair + Scalp Oiling — Weekly

Once a week, I massage hair oil into my scalp and work it through my hair.

I'll often leave it on all day and just pull my hair back or sleep in it and wash it out in the morning (Double cleanse!).

Hair oiling helps reduce damage and breakage, increases softness and shine, and seals the follicles for moisture retention. Additionally, the application of the hair oil via scalp massage increases blood flow and circulation and might help boost hair thickness and help maintain natural hair color.

5. Body oil - daily

After showering, while my skin is still slightly damp, I follow with either Kerala Ayurveda Revitalizing Body Oil or Beauty From Bees Body Serum, depending on what my skin and body are needing that day.

The Revitalizing Body Oil is the one I reach for when I want something more warming and stimulating. This herbal Ayurvedic formula helps warm the tissues and temporarily increase local blood flow and circulation. On other days, I use Beauty From Bees Body Serum, one of my longtime best sellers for a reason. It’s a simple, water-free formula made with just six concentrated ingredients, including avocado oil, castor oil, coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax and rosemary extract.

Consistency Over Perfection

Just like we can’t work out once and expect to see changes in our body, we can’t do our skincare or wellness routines once in a while and expect to see real improvements. It’s the small things we do consistently that add up over time. These rituals don’t have to be complicated or take a lot of time. Find the ones that make you feel good, make them part of your routine, and stick with them.
